The BNP has formally lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against three former Chief Election Commissioners (CECs) and several Election Commissioners (ECs) who served during the 10th, 11th, and 12th parliamentary elections. The party also plans to file a case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station against them, along with 19 others and several unidentified individuals.
The BNP submitted a written complaint, signed by the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, to Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on Sunday (June 22). A party delegation, led by Executive Committee Member Salah Uddin Khan — also the coordinator for legal affairs and information preservation — submitted the complaint to the Commission. Central and local BNP leaders, including Md Mizanur Rahman, Md Iqbal Hossain, Shariful Islam, and Naeem Hasan, were also present.
The BNP has demanded legal action against the CECs and ECs responsible for conducting the 2014, 2018, and 2024 general elections. After submitting the complaint, the delegation is scheduled to visit Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station to formally file the case, said Salah Uddin Khan.
“Despite repeated complaints about these controversial elections, the then CECs and officials took no action,” he said. “We hope the current Election Commission will investigate the matter and take necessary steps. We have submitted a letter in this regard, signed by our Secretary General.”
He added that since the Election Commission office is located in Agargaon, the case will be filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, which holds jurisdiction over that area.
