The BNP has filed a case against 19 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Chief Election Commissioners (CECs), Election Commissioners (ECs), members of law enforcement agencies, and officials from various state institutions, in connection with the national elections held in 2014, 2018, and 2024.
The case was filed by BNP’s National Executive Committee Member Md Salah Uddin Khan at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in Dhaka around 11:30 am on Sunday (June 22). It has been registered as Case No. 11.
Among the accused are former CECs Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, KM Nurul Huda, and Kazi Habibur Awal; former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal; former IGPs Hassan Mahmood Khandker, Javed Patwary, Benazir Ahmed, and AKM Shahidul Haque; former SB Chief Md Monirul Islam; and unnamed former chiefs of the DGFI and NSI.
Confirming the filing of the case, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Imaul Haque said, “According to the complainant, those who previously served as officials of the Election Commission—despite being part of a constitutional institution—conducted the elections by instilling fear and intimidation. They allegedly declared candidates as winners without the people’s mandate. The complainant has submitted detailed allegations against 19 individuals, which we will review before taking further steps.”
Plaintiff Md Salah Uddin Khan stated, “The CECs and ECs who conducted the 2014, 2018, and 2024 elections, along with law enforcement officers and the chiefs of NSI, DGFI, and SB, orchestrated administrative-level elections. Sheikh Hasina declared herself Prime Minister by manipulating the results through night-time voting. I have filed the case against her, 18 others, and several unidentified individuals.”
He added, “In 2018, we submitted a letter signed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to the Election Commission, holding the commissioners accountable for violating the Constitution and committing electoral offenses. As the EC took no action, we have now submitted a copy of that letter and other relevant evidence to the OC of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.”
