BNP leader among 6 detained for assaulting govt official

The army has detained six individuals, including the president of the Pangsa Upazila unit of the BNP, for allegedly assaulting Kazi Rakibul Hasan, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection in Rajbari.

They were detained from the district Consumer Rights office on Thursday night (June 26) and later handed over to Sadar Police Station.

The arrested individuals are: Pangsa Upazila BNP President Chand Ali; Md Ruhul Amin, son of Riazuddin Ahmed of Narayanpur area; Md Bacchu Biswas, son of Badar Uddin Biswas of Shekpara; Mamun Shikder, son of Rowshan Ali Shikder of Bhabanipur; Md Farid Hossain, son of the late Abdur Razzak; and Md Shishir Karim, son of Rezaul Karim Pintoo.

Multiple attempts were made to contact Kazi Rakibul Hasan, but he did not respond to phone calls.

Rajbari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahmudur Rahman said a written complaint was filed, alleging that the accused entered the Consumer Rights office and assaulted Assistant Director Kazi Rakibul Hasan.

“We have received a written complaint regarding the incident. Further legal proceedings are underway,” he added.
