5 arrested over alleged rape, filming video in Cumilla

The Cumilla District Police have arrested the prime accused in connection with the alleged rape of an expatriate’s wife after breaking down the door of her house in Muradnagar upazila, Cumilla. Four others were also arrested for filming and circulating a video of the incident on social media.

The prime accused, Fozor Ali Fozor, son of Shahid Mia of Baherchar Panchkitta village in the upazila, was arrested in Sayedabad, Dhaka, around 5:00 am on Sunday, Cumilla Police Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan confirmed to Jago News. The others arrested for their involvement in filming and spreading the video are Anik, Suman, Ramzan, and Babu.

The Superintendent of Police stated that the circulation of the video on social media sparked widespread public outrage, leading to demands for the swift arrest of the accused. The victim herself filed a rape case at Muradnagar Police Station, naming Fozor Ali as the prime accused. Following this, a police team conducted an operation using information technology and arrested him from the Sayedabad area of Dhaka.

Legal action is being taken against the accused, and the prime suspect, Fozor Ali, will be produced in court after receiving medical treatment, the police official added.

However, according to a press release from the Superintendent of Police, on June 26, at approximately 8:00 pm, Fozor Ali was caught and beaten by locals after being accused of raping the wife of an expatriate living in the same village. Subsequently, the injured Fozor Ali managed to escape from the scene. Some people present immediately recorded a video of the victim and circulated it on social media.
