Shahjalal airport tightens security with stricter baggage checks

Authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) have enforced additional security measures to enhance vigilance and ensure the safety of passengers and aviation operations at the country’s busiest airport.

According to a note issued by the HSIA authorities on Monday night, the new measures include intensified baggage screening for all VIP and VVIP passengers and mandatory manual checks for high-risk baggage after scanning through metal detectors and X-ray machines.

All members of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team are receiving regular awareness briefings and clear instructions to maintain operational readiness, the note said.

The CCTV monitoring team has also been issued special directives, and procedures have been strengthened to ensure prior approval and proper record-keeping for all firearms brought into the airport premises.

In the event of any security breach, investigation committees will be formed by the concerned agencies, and preventive directives will be issued accordingly to avoid recurrence, the note added.
