Dengue claims 3 more lives, 492 new cases reported: DGHS

Three more people died from dengue in the 24 hours till Monday morning, raising this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 48, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 492 new patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, bringing the total number of dengue cases reported this year to 12,763.

According to the DGHS, new cases were reported as follows: 154 Barishal Division (Out of CC), 51 in Chattogram Division (Out of CC), 54 in Khulna Division (Out of CC), 10 in Mymensingh Division (Out of CC), 61 in Rajshahi Division (Out of CC), three in Rangpur Division (Out of CC),  one in Sylhet Division (Out of CC), 69 Dhaka Division (Out of CC), 36 in Dhaka North City Corporation and 53 in Dhaka South City Corporation. 

Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives.

In 2023, a record 1,705 people died from the disease, making it the deadliest year on record.

That year, the DGHS recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 318,749 recoveries.
