Bangladesh, US hold 2nd round of tariff talks

Bangladesh and the United States have held the second round of a three-day tariff talks in Washington DC.

“The talks were very comprehensive, touching on almost all key aspects of the trade relationship between the two nations,” Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, said in a Facebook post on Thursday morning.

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin led the Bangladesh delegation in Washington DC. National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on ICT and Telecommunications, Faiz Ahmed Tayeb, joined the discussions virtually from Dhaka. Senior officials from the Commerce Ministry also attended the meeting in the US capital.

Senior US officials representing agriculture, energy, commerce, and copyright agencies also took part in the talks.

“Both sides will resume their meeting at 9:00 pm Bangladesh time on Thursday. Talks will continue on Friday,” Shafiqul added.
