6 students die by suicide over SSC results

At least six students from different parts of the country have died by suicide after failing the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination or not achieving their expected results, according to reports from Jago News’ district and upazila correspondents.

Barishal: In Hizla, Babuganj, and Bakerganj upazilas of Barishal, five students attempted suicide. Among them, two died while undergoing treatment, and three others are hospitalised in critical condition.

The deceased are Arpita Matubbar (16), daughter of Amal Matubbar from Khunna Gobindapur village in Hizla, and Meem Islam (16), daughter of Humayun Kabir from Bahechar Kshudrakathi village in Babuganj.

Dinajpur: In Hili upazila, Rita Moni (16) died after consuming poison in frustration over failing the exam. She was the daughter of Robiul Islam from Akhira village in Daudpur Union and had appeared for the SSC examination from Daudpur Girls' High School and College.

Gaibandha: In Palashbari upazila, Labonno Akhter (16), a student of Palashbari Piyari Pilot Girls’ High School, died by hanging herself after failing the exam. She was the daughter of Ashraful Islam from Nurpur village in the municipal area.

Cumilla: In Burichang upazila, Probha Akhter (16) died by suicide after failing the exam. She was the daughter of expatriate Mostafa from Ichapura village in Sholonol Union and a student of Vorasar Multi-Purpose High School.

Bagura: In Sherpur upazila, Sumaiya Akhter (17) died by hanging herself after failing to achieve a Golden A+. She was the daughter of Abdul Bari from Garidaha village in Garidaha Union and a student of RDA Academy School and College.
