The government has suspended eight officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) who had joined in a demonstration by NBR employees tearing up the copies of two transfer orders issued amid recent movement seeking the removal of the board’s chairman.
This information was shared in a notification signed by NBR Chairman and Internation Resources Division Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Khan on Tuesday, July 15.
The suspended officials are Masuma Khatun, joint commissioner of taxes at Dhaka tax zone-2, Murad Ahmed, joint commissioner of taxes at Dhaka tax zone-15, Mohammad Morshed Uddin Khan, joint commissioner of taxes at Kushtia tax zone, Monalisa Shahrin Sushmita, joint commissioner of taxes at Noakhali tax zone, Md Ashraful Alam Pradhan, joint commissioner of taxes at Cox’s Bazar tax zone, Mohammad Shihabul Islam, deputy commissioner of taxes at Khulna tax zone, Mst Nusrat Jahan Shomi, deputy commissioner of taxes at Rangpur tax zone, and Imam Touhidul Hasan Shakil, deputy commissioner of taxes at Cumilla tax zone.
A decision has also been taken to take departmental action against them after investigation for publicly arrogant behaviour by tearing up two transfer orders issued by the NBR on June 22, according to the notification.
Earlier on June 24, the members of the NBR Reform Unity Council tore two transfer orders at the NBR Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon, calling the move as ‘vengeful and oppressive.’
