The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia’s Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (GOST R) to strengthen cooperation in developing national standards and enhancing quality control.
The agreement was formalised on Monday at BSTI’s headquarters in Tejgaon, Dhaka, marking a significant step toward bilateral collaboration in standardization.
BSTI Director General (Grade-1) S M Ferdous Alam signed the MoU on behalf of Bangladesh, while GOST R Chief Executive Anton Shalaev represented the Russian side.
The signing ceremony was presided over by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, Maksura Noor. Notable attendees included Minister-Counsellor Ekaterina Semenova from the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Dhaka, Md Mosharraf Hossain, Director General of the Eastern Europe and CIS Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Md Hafizur Rahman, Administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), and senior officials from the Ministry of Industries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russian Embassy, and BSTI.
The MoU aims to foster mutual efforts in aligning standards, promoting quality assurance, and facilitating trade by reducing technical barriers. This partnership is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Bangladeshi products in global markets while leveraging Russia’s expertise in technical regulation and metrology.
The MoU aligns with Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to modernize its standardisation processes and integrate with international frameworks, supporting its aspirations for economic growth and global market access.
