BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that Sheikh Hasina can never be forgiven. "Hasina is a disgrace to humanity and to mothers—there is no forgiveness for her; justice will be served," he stated.
He made the remarks on Sunday (July 20) at a programme held at the mausoleum premises of Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.
The event was jointly organised by the BNP-affiliated Krishak Dal and the platform Amra BNP Poribar. During the programme, neem trees were planted in the name of each martyr within the mausoleum premises.
Highlighting the anguish of a mother of a martyr from the July uprising, Fakhrul said, “The boy whom I dreamed of, my family dreamed of, the future I envisioned, has been taken away by them. Taken away in a brutal and horrifying manner. He was shot and fell down; then he was forced into a van. Whether he was alive or dead, they did not check. Several more bodies were then loaded, and later they were set on fire. Just think, we are citizens of a free country. We fought the 1971 war for independence. The police, administration, and state security forces—whose salaries come from our taxes—are now burning and killing my son, my child. How cruel and barbaric.”
Mirza Fakhrul added that such cruelty and inhumanity can never be forgiven. “Hasina can never be forgiven. She is a disgrace to humanity, a disgrace to mothers. Our primary task will be to bring these perpetrators to justice. The second task will be to rehabilitate the families of the martyrs and provide advanced medical treatment and rehabilitation to those injured. Without this, future generations will not forgive us.”
Referring to the creation of a fund for the injured and families of martyrs of the July uprising, he said, “I will inform the acting chairman today that the party will establish a fund to provide rehabilitation for the injured and the families of the martyrs. Meanwhile, our platform ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ has already stood by the injured and families of the July uprising.”
