Families of those killed or injured in the July 2024 uprising will not receive quotas for government jobs. Liberation
War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam announced it at a press conference at the PID on Monday.
Addressing the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs’ plans for the “July Warriors” and martyrs’ families, the adviser emphasised rehabilitation through training and self-employment over reserved job allocations.
Responding to queries about job quotas, Faruk-e-Azam said, “There will be no quota. We will support them based on their qualifications.”
He outlined a rehabilitation programme focused on empowering survivors and families through tailored opportunities, such as vocational training, poultry farming, or livestock rearing, to foster self-reliance. “Rehabilitation can take many forms,” he said. “We’ll provide training and resources to help them earn a living in the way they choose.”
When asked if government grants for July uprising victims would match those for 1971 freedom fighters, the adviser drew a distinction: “The context of freedom fighters is separate; their contribution is undeniable. We’re not equating the two.” The ministry’s programs, he clarified, exclude provisions like flats or job quotas, focusing instead on sustainable livelihoods.
