Law Adviser Professor Dr Asif Nazrul, Education Adviser CR Abrar and Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam were confined by students of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, on Tuesday morning and were unable to leave the college campus amid strong protests.
Asif Nazrul, CR Abrar and Shafiqul Alam attempted to leave Building No. 5 of the institution around 11:30 am but were surrounded by students. With the help of college teachers, they managed to re-enter the building.
Earlier that morning, they visited the institution to inspect the plane crash-hit Haider Ali Building on the college campus. After the inspection around 10:30 am, students blocked their exit and confined them inside Building No. 5. During this time, the law adviser held talks with a delegation of student representatives.
Tariqul Islam, a Class 11 student participating in the protest, said at least 40 people died in the plane crash yesterday, while the official count states 27 deaths. Many parents are still unable to locate the bodies of their children. He added that the government has not provided any clear assurance regarding a proper investigation into the incident, which is why they are protesting.
Earlier, the students had presented six demands.
