Hundreds of students storm secretariat

Several thousand student protesters demanding various reforms stormed into the Bangladesh Secretariat through Gate 1 on Tuesday, July 22, around 3:40pm.

The demonstrators were chanting slogans such as "Fake, fake," "Why did my brother die? Administration, answer!" and "Action, Action, Direct Action!"

Earlier in the day, the students had gathered in front of the main gate of the Secretariat to protest against multiple issues. In response, all entry and exit gates of the Secretariat were closed around 2:15 pm as the protesters positioned themselves at Gate 1.

The students' demands include the resignation of Education Adviser CR Abrar, justice for the deaths in Milestone College plane crash, and various educational reforms.

Among the protesters were students who failed the SSC examinations this year, as well as those expressing anger over the casualties from an Air Force training plane crash at Milestone School and College in Diyabari, Uttara.

Law enforcement agencies, including army personnel, have been deployed both inside and outside the Secretariat to control the situation.

Additionally, a group of students who initially protested at the Dhaka Education Board joined the demonstration at the Secretariat, demanding a re-evaluation of SSC examination results for those who failed.

The closure of all gates has brought vehicle movement to a standstill, causing long queues inside the premises. The situation has created significant panic among officials and employees currently trapped inside the Secretariat.
