Malaysian PM mourns jet crash victims, hails Maherin’s courage

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed deep shock over Monday’s fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, and praised teacher Maherin Chowdhury for her heroic sacrifice.

“My heart breaks for the people of Bangladesh after learning of the fighter jet crash into a school in Dhaka. Many lives were lost, most of them children. Over a hundred others were injured,” he wrote in a verified Facebook post.

“Among the victims was Maherin Chowdhury, a teacher who rushed her students to safety and valiantly went back into the smoke and flames to save more. Her immense courage will not be forgotten,” he added.

Anwar also said he would be writing to Professor Muhammad Yunus to express Malaysia’s solidarity with the people of Bangladesh.

“In this hour of grief, we stand with you. We mourn every life lost and every family devastated,” he wrote.
