Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus emphasised the need for political parties to visibly unite against fascism to counter emerging threats from defeated forces.
Speaking at a meeting with leaders of 13 political parties and alliances at the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday, he said, "Despite differences and rivalries, the unity of political parties against fascism must be more visible. Otherwise, they will see it as an opportunity."
Reflecting on the July Uprising, Yunus noted, "Our plan was to bring all political parties together to remember the past and demonstrate unity against fascism. However, as a year has passed, signs of conspiracies by defeated forces are becoming evident."
Syed Hasibuddin Hossain of Rashtra Sangskar Andolan, Zonayed Saki of Gana Samhati Andolan, Mujibur Rahman Manju of AB Party, Shahidullah Kaiser of Nagorik Oikya, Nurul Haque Nur of Gana Adhikar Parishad, Redwan Ahmed of LDP, Dr Ahmad Abdul Quader of Khelafat Majlis, Saiful Haque of Biplobi Workers Party, Tania Rob of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, Shahadat Hossain Selim of 12-Party Alliance, Bazlur Rashid Firoz of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Ruhin Hossain Prince of Communist Party Bangladesh, and Dr Mizanur Rahman of Gano Forum, were present at the meeting.
All parties present at the meeting endorsed the need for sustained political and public unity to combat fascism.
They called on Yunus to strengthen law and order measures and expressed unwavering support for ongoing reforms, justice initiatives, and the electoral process.
The leaders also called for more frequent all-party meetings to bolster anti-fascist efforts and prepare for upcoming elections.
Wednesday’s meeting follows a previous meeting on Tuesday night where Professor Yunus engaged with representatives from four major parties: BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh Movement.
