Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, Md Touhid Hossain, has called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire to protect the Palestinian people from genocide and brutal atrocities. He made the appeal while speaking at the UN High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at the United Nations Headquarters.
In his statement, the adviser said that Israel has killed more than 58,000 Palestinians so far, describing it as an act of genocide. He demanded that those responsible for crimes against humanity committed against the Palestinians be brought to justice.
Reaffirming Bangladesh’s unwavering support for an independent State of Palestine, he emphasised that the only path to sustainable peace in the Middle East lies in ensuring the peaceful coexistence of both Israel and Palestine. He urged the international community, including the United Nations, to play an effective role in implementing the two-state solution.
Welcoming the Arab plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, the adviser said Bangladesh is ready to take part in the rebuilding process under UN leadership. He also called for strong resistance to any attempt to obstruct the UN’s humanitarian aid operations in Gaza.
The three-day conference, jointly organised by France and Saudi Arabia, was convened to pave the way for a lasting solution following Israel’s continued aggression in Gaza since October 2023, and to reaffirm UN member states' support for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Delegations from 118 countries, including Bangladesh, are participating in the conference.
