Argentina clinch 3rd place in Copa América Femenina

Argentina clinched third place in the Copa América Femenina with a dramatic 5–4 penalty shootout victory over Uruguay in a gripping third-place playoff on Saturday in Quito, Ecuador.

The match, which ended 2–2 after 90 minutes, showcased the intensity of the South American rivalry and Argentina’s resilience despite their earlier elimination from the title race.

The game started with high energy, as Argentina’s Aldana Cometti broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, giving La Albiceleste an early lead. Uruguay responded swiftly, with Esperanza Pizarro equalizing in the 35th minute. Just before halftime, Juliana Vieira’s precise strike in stoppage time put Uruguay ahead, shifting momentum in their favor.

Argentina fought back in the second half, earning a penalty in the 83rd minute. Florencia Bonsegundo calmly converted from the spot, leveling the score at 2–2 and forcing a penalty shootout.
