A four-month-old baby boy died and his parents suffered injuries in a gas line explosion in Gazipur’s Tongi in the early hours of Sunday, August 3.
The deceased was identified as Rayhan, son of Mohammad Ripon, 25, and Mst Hafija Aktar, 20, residents of Mirer Bazar in Tongi.
An explosion occurred from a gas line leakage when Hafija was cooking in the kitchen, leaving herself, her husband, and her baby boy critically injured, said Ripon’s brother Russel.
Later, they were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, where the on-duty doctors declared the minor child dead, Russel added.
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the facility, said around 80 per cent of Ripon’s body and his wife Hafija’s 70 per cent were burnt, and they both are in critical condition.
