The government has chartered eight pairs of special trains to transport students and members of the public from across the country to Dhaka for the upcoming unveiling of the July Declaration, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 5, at Manik Mia Avenue in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The event, organised by the July Uprising Directorate, marks a significant commemoration of the historic uprising, with thousands expected to gather for the solemn reading of the declaration.
Authorities aim to ensure broad participation by facilitating free rail transport for attendees.
According to railway sources, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued a formal request to the Ministry of Railways following a prior communication from the July Uprising Directorate on Sunday.
The directive called for necessary arrangements to bring students and citizens from various districts to the capital by noon on the day of the event, with return journeys to be coordinated afterwards.
When contacted, Director General of the July Uprising Directorate, Md Mashiur Rahman, declined to comment on the logistical details. “I cannot provide any information on this matter,” he told Jago News. “You should talks to the Secretary.”
In response, Israt Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, confirmed the arrangements. “The July Declaration will be read on 5 August. To facilitate participation, we have requested the Ministry of Railways to arrange special trains to bring students and people from all over the country who wish to attend.”
Pressed on the financial cost of the operation, the Secretary remained non-specific: “I can’t disclose the exact amount at this moment, but I don’t expect it to be high. Since it’s a government initiative, it won’t incur significant expense.”
The use of state resources for mass mobilisation highlights the symbolic importance the interim administration is placing on the event, which is expected to draw large crowds and serve as a moment of national reflection on the recent upheaval and its aftermath.
Security and logistical preparations are underway in the capital, with authorities anticipating a major public gathering. The special train services are expected to ease pressure on road transport and ensure inclusive participation from rural and remote areas.
