The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will build a house for national women’s football star Rituparna Chakma, bearing the entire construction cost.
The decision was made on Saturday during a BCB meeting, which board president Aminul Islam Bulbul joined via Zoom from Melbourne, Australia. Several other significant decisions were also taken.
After the meeting, BCB directors Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Iftikhar Rahman Mithu, and Shafiqul Islam Swapan briefed the press.
They said Rituparna is not only a star footballer in Bangladesh but also among the top players in South Asia. Her home in Rangamati is in a remote area and is in a dilapidated condition. She lost both her father and only brother, and the household now relies solely on her income. A large portion of her earnings goes toward her mother’s medical expenses, leaving her unable to renovate the house. The BCB has stepped in to address this.
Rituparna scored the decisive goal that secured Bangladesh’s SAFF Championship title in 2024. Last month, she netted twice against Myanmar, helping Bangladesh qualify for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the first time.
