EC projects 45,098 polling centres for next elections

The Election Commission has announced that the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections will feature approximately 45,098 polling centres, including a potential addition of 2,950 centres.

This was revealed during a meeting on Tuesday, 12 August, focused on preparing the panel of polling officers and overseeing training activities for the election.

According to the meeting minutes, the 12th parliamentary elections had 11,96,89,289 voters, 42,148 polling centres, and 261,564 polling booths.

Following the 2025 electoral roll update, which includes all voters born on or before January 1, 2008, the EC estimates a total of 12,78,73,752 voters.

To accommodate this increase, the number of polling centres is projected to rise to 45,098, with an additional 2,950 centres under consideration, and the total number of polling booths may reach 2,80,564, including a possible 19,000 extra booths.

The EC further noted that 8,86,790 polling officers will be required to manage these stations.

To ensure preparedness, a panel of polling officers has been expanded by 10% compared to previous elections, with an additional 5% trained as reserve workforce.

In total, approximately 931,131 polling officers, reflecting a 5% increase, will undergo training for the upcoming election.
