Teachers covered under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme have issued a one-month ultimatum to the interim government, demanding concrete steps towards the nationalisation of private educational institutions where they serve.
The teachers warned that if the government fails to take visible and meaningful action within the deadline, they will launch a nationwide full-day strike on 15 September, bringing educational institutions across the country to a standstill.
The announcement was made during a press briefing at the National Press Club on Wednesday (13 August) at around 3:30 pm, following a meeting between leaders of the MPO-affiliated Education Nationalisation Alliance and the Education Adviser at the ministry.
MPO teachers have long campaigned for the integration of educators in private institutions into the national pay scale, as well as the broader nationalisation of private schools and colleges. They cite persistent disparities in salary, job security, and working conditions compared to their counterparts in government-run institutions.
The teachers urged the interim government to act swiftly and transparently, warning that failure to respond will lead to escalating protests and further disruption to the education sector.
The MPO scheme is a government initiative to financially support educators in private educational institutions by paying their salaries and partial benefits, yet disparities between government and MPO teachers remain a key issue that is being addressed over time through policy adjustments and advocacy.
