Joint forces carried out an overnight operation to recover stones looted from ‘Bholaganj Sada Pathor’, a popular tourist spot in Sylhet. During the operation, 12,000 cubic feet of stolen stones were recovered from various locations along the Dhalai River.
The operation, conducted jointly by the district administration and law enforcement agencies, began after midnight on Wednesday (13 August). Companyganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Azizunnahar told Jago News that a six-member committee had been formed to investigate the theft. With the joint forces’ assistance, the committee recovered the stolen stones, which were restored to the Sada Pathor area and points along the Dhalai River.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, an emergency coordination meeting was held at the Circuit House under the initiative of the Sylhet Divisional and District Administration. It was decided to recover the stolen stones and maintain a 24-hour joint force presence at the site.
During the operation, checkpoints were set up along the Sylhet–Bholaganj Road near the airport and in front of Sylhet Club, where several trucks carrying stones were intercepted.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam said the recovery was conducted in coordination with the administration, and the joint forces will continue efforts to retrieve any remaining stolen stones.
