Twenty-four days after the Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, another teacher has died while undergoing treatment.
Mosammat Mahfuza Akter, 45, passed away at 12:45 pm on Thursday (August 14) at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. This brings the death toll at the burn institute from the incident to 19. She had sustained burns over 25 percent of her body.
Confirming the matter, Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the burn institute, said that 23 people are still receiving treatment there, while 14 others have been discharged.
On July 21 at noon, a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crashed into the Milestone campus in the Diabari area of Uttara. Two teachers — Maherin Chowdhury and Masuka Begum — died after being injured in the crash. The overall death toll from the incident has now risen to 36, with around a hundred others injured. Many of the injured are still undergoing treatment.
Twelve days after the crash, on August 3, Milestone School and College reopened. On the first day, some students from grades 9 to 12 and a few guardians visited the campus. However, the usual hustle and bustle was absent, and a quiet stillness prevailed across the premises.
