Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has announced a 28-member panel to contest the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.
Shibir’s central publication secretary Sadik Kayem is the candidate for vice president (VP). SM Farhad, president of Shibir’s Dhaka University unit, will contest for general secretary (GS), while Mahiuddin Khan, general secretary of the DU unit, is running for assistant general secretary (AGS). Fatima Tasneem Juma of Inquilab Manch has joined the panel for the Liberation War and Democratic Movement post.
The nomination forms were submitted at a press conference held at the office of the Chief Returning Officer on the third floor of the Nabab Nawab Ali Senate Building on Monday (18 August). At the event, Shibir’s central secretary Nurul Islam Saddam announced the VP, GS, and AGS candidates and expressed hope that the elections would be held on schedule in a fair and secure environment.
The remaining panel members include: Iqbal Haider for science and technology secretary; Umme Salma for common room, reading room, and cafeteria secretary; Khan Jasim for international affairs secretary, who lost his eyesight during the July Mass Uprising; Nurul Islam Sabbir for literature and cultural secretary; Arman Hossain for sports secretary; Asif Abdullah for student transport secretary; Shariful Islam Muaz for social service secretary; Sajjad Hossain Khan for research and publication secretary; Mazharul Islam for career development secretary; Abdullah Al Minhaj for health and environment secretary; and Sakhawat Zakaria for human rights and legal affairs secretary. The panel also includes 13 additional members.
