Five more NBR officials suspended over protest-related disruptions

Five officials from the Income Tax Department of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) have been suspended for allegedly obstructing official duties during recent employee protests.

The decision was announced in a separate notification issued by the Internal Resources Division of the Ministry of Finance on Monday afternoon, 18 August.

Earlier the same day, four customs commissioners, including two additional commissioners from the NBR’s Customs Department, were also suspended in a separate order.

According to the afternoon notification, the five income tax officials disrupted official operations when employees from the NBR’s Customs, VAT, and Income Tax departments launched agitation against the Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance, 2025, introduced on 12 May.

The officials are accused of acting as organisers, encouraging staff to abandon their duties and gather at the Revenue Building in Dhaka. The disruption reportedly hampered national revenue collection activities, prompting the ministry to initiate departmental action.

Those temporarily suspended are: Chand Sultana Chowdhurani, Director, Central Intelligence Cell;

Sehela Siddika, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit; Sultana Habib, Additional Commissioner, Tax Zone-07; Md Mesbah Uddin Khan, Joint Tax Commissioner, Faridpur Tax Zone; and Md Mamun Mia, Joint Tax Commissioner, Dinajpur Tax Zone.

The notification says that during their suspension, the officials will receive a food allowance in accordance with government rules. The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect.

It was signed by Md Abdur Rahman Khan, Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of the NBR.
