Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has announced its panel for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.
Abidul Islam Khan, joint secretary of JCD’s Dhaka University unit and a 2015-16 session student of the Islamic Studies Department, has been nominated for the post of vice president. Tanvir Bari Hamim, convener of JCD’s Jasim Uddin Hall unit and a 2018-19 session student of the Women and Gender Studies Department, has been nominated for the post of general secretary.
For the post of assistant general secretary, JCD has chosen Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed, convener of its Bijoy Ekattor Hall and a 2018-19 session student of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.
The organization’s central president, Rakibul Islam Rakib, announced the panel on Wednesday (August 20) at the base of the Aparajeyo Bangla sculpture at the university.
Earlier, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir announced a 28-member panel for the DUCSU elections, nominating Sadik Kayem and SM Farhad for vice president and general secretary, respectively.
Meanwhile, seven left-leaning student organizations announced a panel under the name ‘Protirodh Parshad’. Sheikh Tasnim Afroze Imi, former VP of Shamsunnahar Hall, will contest for vice president, while Meghmallar Bosu, president of Chhatra Union’s Dhaka University unit, will contest for general secretary.
An independent panel has also been announced under the leadership of Umama Fatema, former spokesperson of the anti-discrimination student movement. Umama Fatema will contest for vice president, with Al Sadi Bhuiyan, former president of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association, running for general secretary.
As of Tuesday (August 19), a total of 658 nomination forms have been sold for 28 DUCSU posts, and 1,427 nomination forms for 18 hall unions.
According to the schedule, DUCSU election voting will take place on September 9.
