Fire in Mohakhali slum, 7 firefighting units deployed

A major fire broke out on Wednesday in the densely populated Sattala slum in Mohakhali, Dhaka.

Seven firefighting units from the Fire Service and Civil Defence have rushed to the scene and are working intensively to bring the blaze under control.

The fire was reported at 2:37 pm on Wednesday, August 20, triggering an immediate emergency response.

Thick black smoke has been seen billowing from the building, and firefighters are struggling with limited access due to narrow alleyways and the congested layout of the slum.

Residents fled in panic as flames rapidly spread through the makeshift structures, many of which are built with highly flammable materials. So far, no casualties have been confirmed, but rescue and damage assessment operations are ongoing.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Efforts continue to fully extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
