Yunus hands over Purbachal plot deed to Sagar-Runi’s son, Megh

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has handed over the deed for three kathas of land in Purbachal to Mahir Sarwar Megh, son of the slain journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi.

The handover took place on Thursday afternoon, August 21, at the State Guest House Jamuna.

Sagar Sarwar had originally applied for the plot in 2004 and was officially allotted the land in 2005. Despite paying the full price in 2009, the family was never given possession during the previous Awami League government’s tenure.

The plot is now jointly owned by Sagar Sarwar’s mother, Saleha Monir, and his son, Mahir Sarwar Megh, as legal heirs.

During the ceremony, the Chief Adviser inquired about the progress of the investigation into the long-pending Sagar-Runi murder case.

He expressed concern over the delay, saying, “Such a prolonged investigation creates adverse reactions among the public and erodes trust in the justice system. People become disillusioned.”

He directed the relevant authorities to expedite the probe and bring it to a swift conclusion.

Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, who attended the meeting, noted that the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), currently handling the case, has found that crucial evidence has been compromised or destroyed due to the extended delay.

On a personal note, Megh presented the Chief Adviser with a custom-designed jersey and bag of his own creation as a token of gratitude.

Also present at the event were Advisers Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Farida Akhtar, and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md Riazul Islam, and Meherun Runi’s brother Nawajesh Alam Roman.
