EC to unveil Jatiya Sangsad Elections roadmap Sunday

The Election Commission is set to announce the official roadmap for the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections on Sunday, Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah has confirmed.

The announcement follows a high-level EC meeting held on Thursday at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka, where commissioners and senior officials deliberated on the draft election timeline and operational plan.

The meeting, which began at around 2:30 pm, was attended by four Election Commissioners and top officials from the EC Secretariat.

Journalists were initially allowed into the hall but were later asked to leave before closed-door discussions began.

Speaking to reporters during a break around 5:00 pm, Commissioner Sanaullah said: “We’ve begun discussions on the election work plan. Given the number of issues under review, it may not be possible to finalise everything today. In that case, we may need to wait until Sunday or Monday to make a formal announcement.”

However, he later clarified that the roadmap briefing is expected to take place on Sunday, pending final approval from Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

“After concluding discussions with all commissioners and officials, we will submit a comprehensive update to the Chief Election Commissioner. The final plan will be made public in due course,” he added.

The roadmap is expected to outline key dates, including voter list finalisation, candidate nominations, campaign periods, and the polling day for the next general election — a move closely watched by political parties, civil society, and the international community.

The announcement comes amid growing public and political demand for a clear and transparent electoral timeline, especially following the dissolution of the 12th National Parliament earlier this year.

Further updates are expected following the EC’s official briefing on Sunday.
