The BNP has issued a show-cause notice to the party chairperson's advisory council member advocate Fazlur Rahman for his controversial remarks about the July-August Mass Uprising in 2024.
A senior leader of the party confirmed the matter on Sunday, August 24.
The notice said Fazlur Rahman’s statements about the uprising and the martyrs are misleading and completely contrary to the party ideal.
"More than 1,500 people, including over 450 leaders and activists of BNP, were martyred and around 30,000 individuals injured in the July-August Mass Uprising. You (Fazlur Rahman) are continuously insulting such kind of heroic role of student-people in the uprising for restoring democracy,” the notice reads.
"So, you have been directed to submit a written explanation within 24 hours showing causes why an organisational action should not be taken against you for this type of bizarre and undisciplined comments," according to the notice.
However, Fazlur Rahman could not be reached over phone for comment.
