The government has dismissed Public Prosecutor (PP) Ruhul Amin of Patuakhali district’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal for bribing Senior District and Sessions Judge Nilufar Shirin.
The Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law issued an office order through its Solicitor’s Department (GP-PP Branch) cancelling his appointment on Sunday (August 24).
In a written complaint to the Secretary of the Bangladesh Bar Council, Judge Nilufar Shirin alleged that on Wednesday (August 20), around 9:00am, PP Ruhul Amin sent a bundle containing Tk 50,000 along with case documents to her residence through his domestic help.
The complaint further stated that Ruhul Amin repeatedly requested the judge over the phone to grant bail in a women and children-related case. He also allegedly lobbied on behalf of the accused in the widely discussed rape case of Shaheed Jasim Uddin’s daughter.
Following the incident, the Patuakhali District Bar Association suspended Ruhul Amin’s membership and asked him to explain his actions within seven days.
