BNP leader threatens to cut hands of Fazlur’s critics

A local BNP leader has threatened to cut off the hands of anyone who criticises Advocate Fazlur Rahman, adviser to the BNP Chairperson, on Facebook.

Mizanur Rahman Majnu, General Secretary of Raytuti Union unit of BNP in Itna upazila, Kishoreganj, issued the warning after a gathering in front of the union BNP office on Tuesday evening.

In his speech, he said, “What they have done to us so far, we have overlooked until yesterday. From today, there will be no leniency. If anyone writes anything on Facebook, everyone will enter Facebook. If anyone makes any comment regarding Fazlur Rahman, first the hand will be cut off, then it will be given to me. First comes the hand, then comes reconciliation.”

Attempts to reach Mizanur Rahman for comment were unsuccessful as he did not answer multiple calls.

The video of the speech was posted on a personal Facebook account by Abu Hanif, senior member of the central committee of Gana Odhikar Parishad and media coordinator. He wrote: “Majnu Mia, General Secretary of Raytuti Union BNP in Itna Upazila, says that if anyone criticizes Fazlur Rahman on Facebook, their hand must be cut off first, then talk. They have not even come to power yet, and this is the situation. Imagine what they could do to people if they came to power.”

Hafiz Ikram Hossain, former convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Kishoreganj district, also shared the video on his Facebook page, writing: “Like leader, like followers! A warning to cut hands for anyone criticizing Fazlur Rahman on Facebook!”
