Individuals convicted of a crime may face a lifetime ban on entering the United States, the US Embassy in Dhaka has warned. Even relatively minor criminal offences could result in visa denial.
In a public advisory posted on its official Facebook page on Thursday, the embassy emphasised that consular officers routinely review applicants’ criminal histories during visa interviews. They also have the authority to access records of prior arrests or legal violations.
The embassy urged all visa applicants to provide truthful and complete information in their applications and during interviews. It cautioned that deliberately supplying false or misleading information could lead to an immediate visa refusal and may result in permanent ineligibility for entry into the United States.
“Accuracy and honesty are critical,” the embassy stated. “Any criminal conviction, regardless of severity, can render an applicant ineligible for a US visa.”
