Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has said he has no information regarding a reported plot to attack the US embassy in Dhaka, describing any such plan as “informal” if it exists.
Speaking at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday, Touhid responded to media inquiries by saying, “I can tell you this much, if there is a plan to attack, it is informal and I have no information about it.”
The remarks come amid reports that the interim government received intelligence warnings about potential threats to the American diplomatic mission.
Earlier media reports indicated that authorities had been alerted to a possible plot not only to attack the embassy but also to kidnap and kill a Bangladeshi worker of a specific religious background.
When questioned about measures being taken by the government to ensure security, Touhid referred journalists to the Home Ministry. “If it is really security-related, then the Home Ministry may be able to tell what measures it is taking,” he said.
The adviser remained silent when asked about Bangladesh’s reported acquisition of 12 fighter jets from China. He declined to comment on the matter, offering no confirmation or clarification on the potential defence deal.
The comments have sparked discussion about transparency in national security matters, as concerns grow over both domestic safety and foreign military partnerships. The US embassy in Dhaka has not issued an official statement in response to the reported threats.
