Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman has reaffirmed the Bangladesh Army’s full cooperation with the interim government, pledging unwavering support to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The assurance came during a high-level meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Adviser’s Office on Monday, where both leaders discussed the military’s role in supporting civilian administration during the ongoing democratic transition.
According to a government statement, General Waker confirmed the army’s commitment to maintaining law and order, facilitating election preparations, and ensuring national stability in the months leading up to the February 2026 general elections.
Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, shared details of the meeting, stating that the Chief Adviser expressed gratitude for the armed forces’ continued contribution to public safety and institutional continuity during this critical period.
The Chief Adviser emphasised the need to strengthen coordination among all security forces, under a clear command structure, to uphold public confidence and prevent any disruption to the democratic roadmap.
“The army, along with all security agencies, must remain united, professional, and fully aligned with the civilian leadership,” the statement quoted the Chief Adviser as saying.
He iterated his solemn pledge to the nation: “To deliver an election that will be historic, marked by record voter turnout, inclusive participation of youth and women, global confidence in security, and a festive atmosphere of democracy and the rule of law.”
In response, General Waker affirmed: “The entire Bangladesh Army is committed to making all government initiatives and programs a success. We stand ready to support the interim administration in every possible way to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.”
The Chief Adviser and the Army Chief urged the public to disregard baseless rumours and misinformation circulating in media and social networks, warning that such narratives could destabilise the fragile post-uprising environment.
“The transition belongs to the people. Let us protect it with patience, unity, and trust in our institutions,” the Chief Adviser said.
With the election timeline set and key institutions aligning behind the interim government, the meeting marks a significant step toward consolidating national unity, where civilian leadership and military support walk hand in hand, not for power, but for democracy.
