Dr Asif Nazrul, Adviser on Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, said on Tuesday (September 2) that the government is considering establishing a third International Crimes Tribunal once Tribunal-2 vacates its temporary tin-shed premises.
He made the remarks after inspecting renovation work at the main building of Tribunal-2. Housing, Public Works, and Industries Ministry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan Shuvo was present during the visit, along with Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam, Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim, other members of the prosecution team, investigative officials, and the Registrar and staff of the tribunal.
The renovation of Tribunal-2’s main building is in its final stage, and the tribunal is expected to move from its temporary tin-shed structure within a few days.
“Tribunal-2 is currently functioning in a temporary tin-shed. The main building is now ready, and operations will shift there in a few days. We are giving the highest priority to judicial work. Not only the Ministry of Law, but all government institutions are prioritising this,” Asif Nazrul said.
He added, “We are even considering the possibility of establishing a third tribunal once the tin-shed is vacated. If we can set up Tribunal-3, it will allow for speedy trials for enforced disappearances and other types of international crimes.”
