Shohag Paribahan bus counter attacked in Dhaka, several inured

An incident of vandalism and attack occurred at the bus counter of Shohag Paribahan in Malibagh, Dhaka, on Wednesday night. In addition, the house of the transport company’s owner, Ali Hasan Palash Talukder, was also targeted. Ali Hasan and his personal driver, Mamun, were seriously injured by sharp weapons used by the attackers. Authorities reported that several employees of the counter were also hurt in the incident.

Eyewitnesses said that two young men were standing in front of the Shohag Paribahan counter smoking cigarettes. When the counter staff asked them to move and smoke elsewhere, a verbal altercation broke out. Later, the two young men called a few more people to the scene. They suddenly attacked the counter, vandalising it and damaging the glass and furniture. Frightened bystanders ran away during the attack.

Officials at the Shohag Paribahan counter said that at least a few of their employees were injured, including one who was stabbed. The injured are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals.

Md. Nahid, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ramna Model Police Station, said that initially it is known that 60 to 70 people came to the counter, indiscriminately beat people, vandalised the property, and attacked the staff. Two people were seriously injured by sharp weapons, and several others were also hurt. It could not yet be confirmed who carried out the attack. He added that the injured are receiving treatment at various local hospitals, including Sirajul Islam Medical.

Police sources said the attackers are local residents.
