The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested former Awami League lawmaker from the Nilphamari-3 constituency, Saddam Hossain Pavel, in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
Deputy Commissioner of DB (Media and Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the arrest, saying that Pavel was apprehended around 11 pm on Thursday.
Pavel has been accused in multiple cases linked to the July Uprising.
Separate DB teams also detained eight other leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate organisations from different parts of the capital.
According to police, the arrestees were involved in planning and financing sudden processions in Dhaka.
