Jatiya Party office vandalised, torched again

Jatiya Party's central office in Dhaka's Kakrail has been vandalised and torched again.

The incident occurred on Friday evening, September 5.

A fire was reported at about 7:18pm at the central office of Jatiya Party (JaPa), Rozina Aktar, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence, told Jago News.

It is yet unclear who and why committed the acts.

It is learned that a group of agitated people carried out vandalism at the office and set fire to it.

Later, the law enforcers fired tear gas shells and sound grenades to disperse the agitators, leading to a chase and counter-chase between them.

Earlier on August 30, the JaPa central office came under attack and was vandalised.

The incident occurred at around 6:30pm on the day. Just 15 minutes earlier, the leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) had marched to the Jatiya Party office with a protest procession.

The demonstration was organised in response to an earlier assault on GOP President Nurul Haque Nur.

Following the procession, clashes broke out and bricks were reportedly hurled at police officers and the police had responded with tear gas and water cannon to bring the situation under control.
