Professor Mafruhi Sattar, a member of the Election Commission for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) polls, has stepped down, citing irregularities and mismanagement.
He made the announcement at a press conference around 8:45pm on Friday, September 12.
Prof Mafruhi, the president of BNP-aligned Jatiyatabadi Teachers’ Forum at the university, said he demanded the suspension of the elections due to the irregularities and mismanagement but the commission continued ballot counting.
That is why, he decided to resign, Prof Mafruhi said.
Earlier on Thursday, three teachers reportedly aligned with BNP stepped aside from their duties in the JUCSU and hall union polls, citing widespread irregularities.
They are Prof Shamima Sultana, Nazrul Islam, and Nahrin Khan.
