In a landmark moment for Egypt’s Coptic community in Bangladesh, Ambassador Omar Fahmy officially inaugurated the newly completed headquarters of the Egyptian Coptic Church, St Mark Coptic Mission, in Dhaka.
The opening ceremony, held on Sunday, was attended by members of the Egyptian Coptic community and diplomatic representatives.
The new facility, centrally located in Dhaka, is designed to host weekly liturgies, religious festivals, community gatherings, and youth activities — offering a dedicated space for worship and fellowship for Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Christians, who have long sought a permanent spiritual home in the country.
With Egypt maintaining consular and cultural representation in Dhaka — alongside visa centres in major cities like Cairo, Alexandria, and beyond — the church’s establishment underscores Cairo’s growing institutional footprint in South Asia.
Community members expressed gratitude for the embassy’s support, noting that the church will not only serve Egyptians but also foster interfaith dialogue with Bangladeshi Christians and other religious groups.
As the first notes of Coptic hymns echoed through the new sanctuary, the inauguration marked not just the opening of a facility but the deepening of a spiritual and cultural partnership between two ancient civilisations.
