Firefighter injured in Tongi chemical warehouse fire dies

A firefighter who suffered burn injuries while trying to douse a fire at a chemical warehouse in Gazipur's Tongi has passed away in a hospital in Dhaka.

The fire extinguisher, Shamim Ahmed, died around 3:00pm on Tuesday, September 23, at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Talha Bin Jashim, media cell official at the Fire Service and Civil Defence, told Jago News.

Around 100 per cent of Shamim's body was burnt in the fire, according to the hospital sources.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, September 22, the fire erupted at a chemical warehouse beside Sahara Super Market in Gazipur's Tongi.

Five firefighters and three workers were burnt while trying to douse the blaze.

Of the injured, six were first taken to Tongi Government Hospital and later, they were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital as their condition deteriorated.
