Juba League leader Mizanur Rahman, who hurled eggs at National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain — a member of Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s delegation to the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York — has been released on bail.
He was freed on bail at around 9:00 pm local time on Tuesday (September 23), Washington Awami League President Saiful Islam confirmed to Jago News.
Earlier, on Monday night (September 22) local time, New York police arrested him in front of Nabanno Restaurant in Jackson Heights. Police identified him, surrounded him, and after questioning, handcuffed and took him into custody.
On Monday afternoon local time, an Emirates flight carrying the Chief Adviser and his entourage landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. After some delay in exiting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP acting chairman’s foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir, NCP leader Akhtar Hossain, and NCP senior joint member secretary Tasnim Jara faced slogans from Awami League activists.
Security personnel from the Chief Adviser’s press wing, along with several BNP activists, attempted to escort them out safely. At that point, several Awami League and Juba League activists hurled eggs at Akhtar Hossain and shouted obscene remarks at Tasnim Jara. In protest, Akhtar chanted, “Inquilab Zindabad.” Later, with police assistance, the delegation members left the airport by car.
