Lieutenant General (retired) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Home Affairs, has assured that fertilizer prices will not increase as long as he remains in office.
He made the statement on Thursday (September 25) at a press conference at the Secretariat, where he highlighted the achievements and overall progress of the Ministry of Agriculture over the past year.
The agricultural adviser said a policy on fertiliser has already been formulated and will be submitted to the National Committee for final approval. The committee is headed by the Industry Adviser, who is currently abroad. “We will hold a meeting next week and give the approval. The policy introduces significant changes regarding fertiliser dealers,” he added.
He also noted that fertiliser prices have not been increased. “Fertiliser is being smuggled. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to curb these activities,” he said.
Regarding PetroBangla’s proposal to raise gas prices for fertiliser production, the adviser said, “Even if PetroBangla increases gas prices, the cost of fertiliser will not go up. At least, as long as I am in office, fertiliser prices will remain stable.”
