RU pro-BNP teachers withdraw ‘complete shutdown’

The BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Teachers' Forum at the Rajshahi University (RU) has withdrawn their complete shutdown enforced in protest against the assault on teachers.

The forum president prof Dr Abdul Alim made the announcement at a press briefing in front of Shaheed Buddhijibi Chattar on the university campus around 3:30pm on Thursday, September 25.

He, however, threatened to go tougher movement if swift action is not taken against the students who attacked on the pro-VC and several faculty members during a recent demonstration over the reinstatement of the ward quota system.

At about 12:30pm, the Jatiyatabadi Teachers' Forum sat in a meeting with the university administration, where the forum demanded ensuring justice over the assault on teachers.

About this, prof Abdul Alim said, "The vice-chancellor assured us of bringing those involved in the assault on teachers to justice quickly, and after consulting with all members of the teachers' forum, we are announcing the postponement of our ongoing programme."

Earlier, the teachers' organisation backed by the Jamaat-e-Islami withdrew the complete shutdown.
