Three people were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sunamganj on Friday morning. The accident occurred at Pagla Bazar in Shantiganj Upazila on the Sunamganj-Sylhet highway.
The deceased have been identified as Abadita Keshba Priya, 40, and her daughter Prathama Chowdhury, a seventh-grade student of Satish Chandra Balika High School, both residents of Ukilpara in Sunamganj, and the auto-rickshaw driver Sojal Ghosh, 50.
According to police and local sources, the CNG-run auto-rickshaw was traveling from Sunamganj to Sylhet with passengers when it collided head-on with a pickup van coming from Sylhet. The impact killed Priya and the auto driver on the spot. Prathama Chowdhury, who was critically injured, was taken to Shantiganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead.
Shantiganj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Ahad said, “Three people, including a mother and daughter, died in the collision between the pickup and the auto-rickshaw. The pickup driver has been detained. Fire service teams are working at the site. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for postmortem.”
