Rock shock in Meherpur: James’ concert cancelled over security concerns

The electrifying return of Bangladesh’s rock icon James and his band Nagarbaul to the live stage in Meherpur has hit a sudden roadblock.

The highly anticipated concert, set for October 5 to launch the brand-new Surya Club, has been abruptly cancelled after local authorities refused permission, citing an inability to ensure adequate security for the massive crowd expected.

Organisers confirmed the news on Tuesday, revealing that despite weeks of buzz, ticket sales, and mounting fan excitement, the show cannot go ahead without official clearance.

“The administration has expressed that it cannot ensure proper security for a large-scale gathering of this nature,” local sources disclosed.

The Surya Club, which had already started selling tickets from September 22, was forced to suspend sales just three days later on September 25.

Only a small number of tickets had been sold, and the club assured buyers their names and details are recorded for a full refund.

Issuing a sharp warning to fans, the club said: “No tickets are being sold now. Anyone claiming to sell tickets for this concert is committing fraud. The Surya Club will not be responsible for such transactions.”

James’ spokesperson, Robin Thakur, confirmed the cancellation: “James Bhai has been informed. Unfortunately, the necessary permission wasn’t granted by the local administration due to security constraints.”

For fans in Meherpur, who had been counting down to witness the living legend’s first-ever performance in the district, the news was heartbreaking. Social media lit up with disappointment as many lamented the missed opportunity to see their idol live.

The Surya Club has promised to explore alternative dates if administrative clearance can be secured in the future, but for now, the much-hyped show remains a dream deferred.

For the thousands of rock fans who had hoped to hear James’ signature riffs light up the Meherpur night sky, the silence is deafening.
