Nine people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in five districts of the country on Sunday, October 5.
Of them, three were killed in Cumilla, two in Jhenaidah, and two in Kurigram, while two deaths were reported in Narayanganj and Gaibandha respectively.
In Cumilla, three people, including two women, were killed after being struc by thunderbolts in Bhabanipur Kheyaghat of Homna this afternoon.
They were identified as Momtaz Begum, 35, and Jakiya, 25, daughters of late Haji Motiur Rahman, a resident of Nala Dakshin village, and Rashed Mia, 22, son of Rahinur Islam of Khode Daudpur village in the upazila, said Homna police station officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam.
In Jhenaidah, two individuals were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes when they were working in a field, according to Shailkupa, and Sadar police stations.
The dead were identified as Shimul Bishwas, 28, son of Shamser Bishwas, a resident of Armukhi village in Sadar, and Hurmat Sheikh, 55, of Shekhra village in Shailkupa.
In Kurigram, two individuals, including a child, died in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Nageshwari.
The deceased were Sahib, son of Abul Kashem, a resident of Char Luchni village, and Mohammad Babul Mia, 7, son of Nur Hossain, of Kalikapur village in the upazila. Babul studied at a local madrasa.
In Narayanganj, a schoolboy passed away after thunderbolts struck him in Kalapaharia area in Araihazar this afternoon.
The victim, Wasim, 13, was the son of Dila Mia, a resident of Ulukandi village and studied at a local government primary school in the upazila.
Fazlul Haq, a doctor at the Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex, confirmed his death.
In Gaibandha, a farmer was killed in lightning strikes in Saghata this afternoon.
The victim, Abdul Aziz, 45, was a resident of Dighalkandi village in the upazila.
An unnatural death case was filed in this connection, said Saghata police station officer-in-charge Badsha Alam.
